Roma, also known as Gypsies or Romany, face an ongoing battle of being misunderstood, stereotyped and persecuted. Having originated from India, they nomadically dispersed throughout parts of the world, including Europe, the Middle East and right here in the U.S.A. This special event at International House aims to introduce folks to a portion of the group’s distinct heritage through music and dance. It’s slated to feature performances from Vadim Kolpakov, a Russian-Romany musician/dancer (side note: He was part of Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” tour) and Marina Kolpakov, a dancer specializing in flamenco, Latin and Russian-Romany moves.
