Fayetteville-born flatpicker Jonathan Byrd, who now resides in Carrboro, North Carolina, has released eight albums and prefers a storytelling lyrical style draped over his bluegrass/country/folk acoustic music. His sometimes-somber stories draw the listener in with Southern-influenced, relatable tales of love and loss — and a few songs just happen to mention NASCAR drivers for good measure. (Jeff Hahne)
