Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Liasons)

Back in 2009 when Queen City Theatre Company staged Dangerous — playwright Tom Smith’s contemporary take on Les Liaisons Dangereuses — here in Charlotte, shock resonated among the theater scene. This specific adaptation of the production used dangerously high levels of sexual and gay content (the cast was all-male) to portray a plotline of love, lust, seduction and betrayal. Now in 2013, the theater company revisits French novelist Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ work with a new twist. Based off of Christopher Hampton’s classic adaptation of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, QCTC director Glenn T. Griffin has added his own new creative, erotic tweaks. In the most manipulating of roles: The lovely Cynthia Farbman Harris stars as seductress Marquise de Merteuil and Kristian Wedolowski resurfaces (in the likes of corset and leather) as the vindictive Vicomte de Valmont.
