The Pin

Past and present, romance and reflection collide in this emotional Canadian film directed by Naomi Jaye. After seeking refuge in a barn during WWII, two Jewish teens fall in love. Facing constant danger, the two (played by Milda Gecaite and Grisha Pasternak) find comfort in one another. Years later, after fate has torn them apart, they are reunited — one as a corpse — for a final farewell. Charlotte Film Society kicks off its 2014 Saturday Night Cine Club with this screening. In Yiddish with English subtitles. A discussion (via Skype) with director Naomi Jaye will follow the 3 p.m. screening. For more information, visit www.charlottefilmsociety.com. (Anita Overcash)
