A ton of comic books are set to hit shops this summer — but some will be more worth reading than others. Here’s what I’m looking forward to reading over the next few months:
Batman and Robin (DC Comics, June): Writer Grant Morrison and artist Frank Quitely reunite to introduce a brand-new Batman and Robin. Let’s hope they can rekindle some of the wild creativity they pumped out on All-Star Superman.
Chew (Image Comics, June): Now here’s a book with a cool concept: Chew tells the story of a police detective with the ability to get psychic impressions from whatever he eats. This comes in handy when searching for killers and such … but unfortunately requires nibbling on corpses.
Buck Rogers (Dynamite Entertainment, June): Dynamite brings back one of pop culture’s first heroes: Buck Rogers. The enduring “man out of time,” who served as the inspiration for dozens of iconic characters, returns with a new design by Alex Ross and a new ongoing series.
Captain America No. 60 (Marvel Comics, June): Is Steve Rogers coming back from the dead? I hope so (even though I love the new Cap).
Blackest Night (DC Comics, July): Writer Geoff Johns rolls out this limited series that stars Green Lantern (all of them) and promises to bring back a bunch of dead heroes (like Aquaman and Martian Manhunter).
Wednesday Comics (DC Comics, July): With Wednesday Comics, DC hopes to bring back the look and feel of those classic full-page Sunday comic strips. The weekly, 12-issue series sports an impressive lineup of creators, including Neil Gaiman, Joe Kubert, Paul Pope, Kyle Baker and Brian Azzarello.
