Brixx’s firing of waitress Ashley Johnson has now become national news. The Huffington Post has a story about Johnson’s canning, under the headline “Waitress FIRED Over Status Update On Facebook.”

As we wrote about yesterday, and as originally reported by the Observer, Johnson was fired from her job as a waitress at Brixx Uptown after she posted on Facebook about a cheap couple (or rather, “cheap piece of shit campers”) who stiffed her on a tip. Readers’ opinions have run the gamut from support for Johnson’s free speech rights to defenses of Brixx’s policies. Brixx posted a comment on their own Facebook page about the incident and customer reactions. Part of the statement declares, “Our policies ensure Brixx is an enjoyable place to both work AND dine.” You know, I don’t think those policies exactly worked out this time, considering that Brixx’s reaction to Johnson’s gripe has resulted in piles of bad PR, and has now become a national story.

  1. You whining know it alls have no idea what youa are talking about. Just proves that once again people in Charlotte have no actual damn concept of the law and how it is applied.

To all you anti-social Facebook addicts who live your lives on a computer: Anything you post on the internet can come back to haunt you. PERIOD.

All of this crap about Facebook ‘privacy’ settings is just a buch of bull. It means NOTHING in this case. Whoever told Brixx about the post, means NOTHING here.

The fact is that she posted something on the internet that was a violation of the company’s policy. They have that right and she knew that when she started work.

This foolish society of today thinks that they can say whatever they want on the internet and it’s their right to do so. Well, sorry, but you are dead wrong. Just look at all the problems with teachers and their Facebook comments.

Get off Facebook and try being a real adult and interacting with living people.

N.C. is an at-will work state and they can fire you for any reason, at any time. It may suck, but unfortunately that’s the way it is folks.

And to all the bleeding heart, bitching waitresses out there complaining about your tips and ‘your’ tables: Remember, you are an employee of the business who hired you. You are there at their pleasure to do what they tell you to. THEY are responsible for your compensation, NOT the patrons. Not quite sure how all that BS got turned around in your minds but you are wrong, and so are they if they are telling you such. It is their restaurant, not yours.

Do not treat customers like they owe you something, because they do not. If you don’t like being a waitress, get the hell out and do something else. We will tip you according to our on rules, not yours. Finally, this young girl will realize her mistake and hopefully learn from it in this case, and maybe some of the rest of you will too.

  2. Tipping has been around since the 1500’s. Waitress’s didn’t make the rules we follow what was set forth years ago. I take care of people’s family like they were my own while serving. I get paid 2.00 an hour and all I ask is a little bit of respect and be tipped for a job well done. I really do care that your family is well served. I am a mother of three helping to support my family without government help. If you are a poor tipping business owner don’t ask for my business because I remember faces and I won’t be paying you for anything.

  3. I tell you — I started this thing out 100% behind Brixx — it is their policy, she violated it — but as soon as I saw the story on Drudge I knew it has mutated in ways that the company should have foreseen.

Better to have kept her on staff, write her up, and make clear another post means toast than invite the negative pub the company got.

  4. This should never have been a public issue. It’s between the waitress and Brixx. She violated company policy that she agreed to uphold when she signed an agreement to said policies before being hired. Brixx punished her for breaking their policy. Then she goes and calls the Charlotte Observer to get an article written about her (it’s true – http://atcharlotte.blogspot.com/2010/05/waitress-fired-for-facebook-rant-says.html) like an narcissistic immature child.

Also, we don’t even know the whole story. She’s the one who called in the story, so what side of the story do you think is going to be told and what parts are going to be left out? Perhaps, she was not a good waitress and this was the last straw. Maybe her demeanor towards customers was sub-par. The point is, people have to have a little more understanding. Try to think about this story from both sides.
