Adjusting her vocal chords to add vivid harmonies to R&B, blues, jazz, hip-hop and gospel, Hill has definitely marked a spot for herself on “artists-to-watch” lists. The songstress, a backup singer who up until 2009 was largely out of the spotlight, gained attention through both her “Heal the World” number at King of Pop Michael Jackson’s funeral – prior to his death, she was supposed to tour with him on his upcoming London tour – and through 20 Feet From Stardom, a documentary about backup singers who have worked with some of the most renowned musicians of the 20th century. Visiting the Q.C. for a special performance during Pride Charlotte, we can expect only good things from the singer whose soulful vocals have warmed the hearts of the record industry and our own ears (whether we knew her or not).
