Republicans in the U.S. Senate want American taxpayers to foot most of the bill for the cleanup of the disastrous, ongoing Deepwater Horizon oil spill. In other words, they want us to bail out BP. Yep, I know, its just completely unbelievable, but the GOP senators want to bailout yet another major corporate screw-up and a corporation thats a relentless environmental polluter to boot. That’s what will happen if the Senate GOPs tactics work and they successfully block a bill designed to make BP clean up its own mess (if a spill the size of the two Carolinas combined can be called a mere mess). GOP senators, led by Alaskas Lisa Murkowski and Oklahomas James Inhofe, have repeatedly blocked a bill that would raise the cap on oil companies liability from $75 million to $10 billion.
So far, the cost of the cleanup has hit around $600 million and is going up every minute, so as of now (May 24, noon), the GOP’s idea for cleaning up BPs mess would already cost American taxpayers $525 million. Experts estimate the total cost of the current spill cleanup could be anywhere from $1.5 billion to $14 billion; the latter figure includes payments to ruined businesses along the Gulf Coast.
As pointed out by True Majority, BP makes over $3.9 million EVERY HOUR. In the 31 days since the rig exploded, they’ve earned over $2.8 billion. The current spill is expected to wreck the Gulf Coasts fishing and tourist industries, not to mention the untold damage to the Gulfs already-threatened wetlands, but thats apparently not a problem for the clueless millionaires club running the GOP caucus in the Senate. There are apparently no depths to which some oil company stooges in Congress wont sink in order to appease their greasy overlords.

So now everybody is an expert on oil exploration and the environment. Well, almost everybody. Some are experts on who is being paid off behind the scenes.
I wonder if any aviation experts get paid off when an airplane crashes?
Just like damn Bush and his Daddy and their love for oil companies. Leave it to the teabaggers to pull something like this. BP should pay for what they’ve done.
Nice sleight of hand there turbo. Bailout and NOT penalizing are two seperate actions… two seperate things… and they are not equal.
With your logic, anytime the government doesn’t TAKE you can logically call it a BAILOUT.
Pure tom foolery. Look who owns BP. Look who BP has supported the most of any president.
open ur friggin eyes.

If you’d try to think rather then lead with your hate, you wouldn’t sound so foolish.
The “teabaggers” (nice term, homophobe…the Boston Tea Party PREDATES the invention of the teabag by over 100 years, genius), as you so un-eloquently put it, advocated AMERICAN companies drilling on LAND in AMERICA. BP is a BRITISH company drilling 5,000 feet UNDERWATER and 40 miles OFF-SHORE.
If liberals had allowed for oil exploration in the fertile ANWR (which the hippy hypocrites don’t even visit), a spill would be less likely, easier to plug, and easier to clean. You can think your Democrats and environuts for the mess in the Gulf, genius.
And John, I noticed that like so many liberals, you are willfully dishonest (or possibly ignorant) when you point to BP’s profits.
BP, one of the largest corporations, makes a large profit. When you have far, far more employees than the average company…far, far more stockholders…of course your TOTAL profit will be high.
But you know that’s NOT high? The PERCENTAGE profit. The oil companies, BP included, have a much lower profit margin than companies like Coca-Cola, Microsoft, and hoards of others.
You’re whining is akin to a company of 10 people making a total of million dollars a year, moaning about the “wealthy” 5,000 employees in another company making a total of $10 million a year.
Do you know which company profits the most from the oil industry. Well, not a company, really, but the federal government. Are you aware the feds make MORE per barrel of oil than the people who extract, refine, and ship that oil?
Where’s the whining about price gouging now? When gas prices increase, SO DO GOVERNMENT’S PROFITS from it, in many instances. They don’t gouge a flat fee per barrel, but often a percentage of price.
Ask yourself…why is the price of EVERYTHING you buy in a gas station listed as its pre-tax price…EXCEPT gasoline? Because it is illegal for gas stations to advertise the pre-tax price of gasoline.
