At the time of its 1996 release, their messy masterpiece Pinkerton was considered a commercial letdown. While Rivers Cuomo and crew licked their wounds, nascent emo kids discovered the quartet’s power pop meets metal crunch tunes, catapulting Weezer to their current alt rock elder status.
