2014 International Film Festival

When: Mon., March 17, 5 p.m. 2014
Price: Free admission
Members of UNC Charlotte’s Department of Languages and Culture Studies and the university’s language clubs have teamed up to organize this annual festival with films that represent China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico and Russia. Many of the events will also feature visiting directors who will lead discussions following the screenings. During Monday’s screening of the French film Le bonheur d’Elza, director Mariette Monpierre will make a special appearance. The film, a winner of the Paul Robeson Award for Best Picture of the Diaspora at the 2013 FESPACO (Pan-African Film Festival of Ouagadougou), follows the emotional journey of Elza — a young Parisian woman who returns to her native island of Guadeloupe in search of her father. The festival continues on select days through April 2. For the full roster of flicks, as well as dates and times, visit www.filmfest.uncc.edu. (Anita Overcash)
