My last encounter with Machine — a collective of actors who create experimental performances — was during a Pecha Kucha at Mint Museum Uptown earlier this year. With only a limited amount of stage time, the group presented a powerful piece on two nurses caring for a man who fought against his confines. The scene closed with a chilling rendition of “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be).” Human nature, the meaning of life and the mystery of existence are topics frequently explored by Machine productions like this one. The group’s latest, A Guide for the Newly Dead, explores the transition from life to death. It comes just in time for Halloween and Day of the Dead.
