* Best Local Coffee Shop

"Central Coffee fuels our lives around here. We have our meetings there. It's the only place I know that can really make almond milk work" — Tynan

"The atmosphere is great and it's awesome coffee." — Rothweiler

* Best Vegan-Friendly

"Nourish is a vegan food delivery company. It's well-balanced and doesn't have anything processed in it." — Rothweiler

"They are gluten-free, sugar-free, GMO-free, organic and as local as possible. It's all of the things that are really important in our personal lives to better support our community and farmers and good food practices. And it's prepared food that's delivered to you. We're so busy, we don't have time to shop and cook for everything to be local and organic. They source all of that and bring it to you." — Tynan

* Best Area to Live in Charlotte

"I want to say my neighborhood — Plaza Midwood, but it's not going to be anymore... give it five more years. Get it while it's hot. Just like NoDa is already 20 percent down the drain. We're here with the business and it makes us sad. Now they're changing Plaza Midwood, too." — Tynan

"I think it's good to have the conversation about the condos and what's happening in Charlotte." — Rothweiler

* Best Venue

"We love the Chop Shop because it's always been supportive of us — with Aerial CLT endeavors and personal endeavors. It's going to be really sad to see them go." — Rothweiler

"That's how they are with everyone in the community though. Jay has worked closer with us and even hosted our student showcases. He sees us as a cool thing to support in the community and he treats everyone like that when he sees something of value. He's done a great job with that space and turning something out of nothing." — Tynan

* Best Art Space

"We really love Twenty-Two. My favorite thing is all of their open calls to the community where they put up stuff from anyone who wants to put something up. That's great to foster people who enjoy creating and making things but don't always have a place to showcase. They also have great monthly shows. They also do the deck show — Let the Good Times Roll. I think they do a great job of bringing people together." — Tynan

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
