Celebrating Love and Passion CL Recommends

When: Sun., April 14, 4 p.m. 2013
Price: $20 general public; $10 faculty and staff; free for students
A master at the universal message of love, Rumi is one of the most influential Persian poets and Sufi mystics for good reason. His 13th century teachings, the basis for the Mevlevi order (a Sufi order founded in Konya, Turkey), stressed the importance of music, poetry and dance as tools for reaching God. But it's the compassion and unity of his words, in whatever language they are translated into, that resonate the most. UNC-Charlotte's Iranian Student Organization, Office of International Programs and Friends of Persian Arts in Charlotte have teamed up to present a program that honors his work. Celebrating Love and Passion will include a short introduction about Rumi, poetry and live music — in both Farsi and English. Dervish/Darwish dancing or "whirling" is also slated to accompany selections of music through the evening. Held in Rowe Recital Hall. For more information, visit www.icsnc.org/node/297.
