FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 1, 2019 Charlotte, NC - Cities across the world are starting to take climate change seriously. Last year, Charlotte became a national leader on climate change when City Council unanimously made a bold public commitment to become a low carbon city by 2050.

Learn how we'll get there as a community by joining Sustain Charlotte at Grow Smart CLT, where we'll explore the goals and action areas of the city's new Strategic Energy Action Plan (SEAP). We'll also take a closer look at tools for measuring progress towards greenhouse gas reduction goals. And of course we'll discuss ways YOU can help make sure the plan's goals are fully implemented!

Our speakers include: Rob Phocas, the Director of Sustainability for the City, who will give an update on the Strategic Energy Action Plan (SEAP).

Meg Fencil, Program Director of Sustain Charlotte who will discuss how other U.S. cities are pursuing their energy goals.

And Pam Yonkin, the Transportation Sustainability & Resiliency Director at HDR, who will discuss the Sustainable Value Analysis as an example of a tool that cities can use to objectively measure their progress towards achieving sustainability goals.

Event Details Date: Wednesday, July 10 Time: 6-8 p.m. Program begins at 6:30 p.m. Location: Triple C Brewing Company - Barrel Room, 2900 Griffith St.

Tickets: The event is open to the public (free for Sustain Charlotte members, $10 for non-members).

2019 Grow Smart CLT Dates: July 10, September 11, November 13

About Grow Smart CLT: As Charlotte grows (adding 44 new people every day), it is critical that we “grow smarter”. To help, Sustain Charlotte’s monthly event series, Grow Smart CLT, explores the multiple sustainability challenges that Charlotte faces due to our rapid growth.

Each event focuses on a different issue that is being impacted by our growth, and explores the obstacles and potential solutions. Attendees walk away with a better understanding of the challenges we face and at least one action they can take to put Charlotte on a smarter path.

Sustain Charlotte is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization helping to advance a region-wide sustainability movement by serving as a catalyst for change. Our mission is to inspire choices that lead to healthy, equitable and vibrant communities across the Charlotte metro region for generations to come. Sustaincharlotte.org
