In Mandie Koci’s print titled “Alone,” the portrayal of desolation is evident. The figure is consumed by the darkness surrounding her, which settles at the bottom of the composition. The contortion of the subject’s form is revealed through high tonal contrast, leaving the audience uneasy and yet sympathetic to the universal nature of loneliness. “Alone” is just one of the many prints Koci has created; she and 24 other artists will be showing their work at Creative Loafing’s second annual Art & Music Festival. (Consider this shameless self-promotion.) The event will feature a range of art for sale, from hand-painted wine glasses to paintings. In addition, five local bands — including Brandon Kirkley & the Firecrackers and Pradigy GT — will perform throughout the day. A portion of the sales from the event will go toward Amped for a Cure.
