Exhibits: Deliberate Acts & InnerSights

Check out the McColl Center for Visual Art for solo exhibitions by its 11-month affiliates. Daniel Allegrucci, best known for woodcuts of explosions and other intimations of force (such as "Explosion 15," left), is jumping out of his comfort zone and adding installations to his repertoire in the show Deliberate Acts. Patricia Steele Raible is exhibiting InnerSights, a series of mixed media paintings that explore different manifestations of prayer.

Opening reception, Friday, Nov. 19, 6-9 p.m. McColl Center, 721 N. Tryon St. www.mccollcenter.org.

  • On Saturday, Oct. 21, hundreds gathered at Camp North End on Statesville Avenue for Charlotte's first black alternative music festival. We captured some of the bands in action on stage, but mostly we surveyed the grounds as fans, families, vendors and more lounged around the sprawling, colorful Camp North End site. It was a great day of music, food, fun, and sweet, autumn sunshine. (Photos by Mark Kemp)
