Independent legend John Sayles directs this tale of two childhood friends, once so close they could “go for sisters,” but a 20-year separation finds one a recently paroled addict and the other her parole officer. A cat-and-mouse thriller ensues when the officer enlists her friend’s help to save her son from a Tijuana drug cartel.
