Jamorah
Jamorah is made up of four musicians that love to jam. Influenced by many genres, they get together on Mondays at Smokey Joe's Cafe in Charlotte NC to relax and have fun playing the music they love the most.
They have bands of their own, and live lives on their own, but on Mondays they release their inner souls and let the music play the band.
Guests come on a regular basis and they allow the band to open up and let the instruments do the talking.
Guitar, Keys, Bass, Drums are the root and are joined by percussion, horns, and more to make it a full sound.
Expect to hear Rock, Blues, Jazz, Reggae, and Latin styles. Of course, they all share the love for the psychedelic sounds of Jerry Garcia and the mastery of Frank Zappa which makes it for an interesting medley of jams. When the "latin mafia" show up with percussion, there is a latin vibe much like Santana.
The Band:
Cito Giulini
Lead guitarist and vocalist, combines his Latin upbringing and his classical guitar training to create a unique and compelling guitar style which can range from soft and subtle to towering and powerful. He played with North Carolina jam bands Liquid Sound and the Other People, as well as The Moonshine Racers. His band has opened for Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews, Edwin McCain, Bob Weir, and many more over the years.
Curtis Wingfield
Drums, received his first drum set as a Christmas present just before his third birthday. He then began studying piano at age four, receiving superior ratings and high placements at regional, state, and national piano competitions. Returning to the drums at age 11, Curtis began studying the instrument much more seriously, eventually at East Carolina University where he studied percussion performance and music theory with a concentration in jazz .Since then, Curtis has toured the US extensively with Bellyfull, Gongzilla (replacing Gary Husband) and Afromotive. Curtis' work with Afromotive also led to him being featured in both Modern Drummer and DRUM! Magazines. He has also studied and performed with Jeff Sipe, Jeff Coffin, and Steve Kimock.
Russ Betenbaugh
Keyboardist and vocalist, has played with all kinds of road bands over the years including Hobex and was a key member of "Other People" and "Liquid Sound", both bands he played in with Cito. Influenced by all kinds of masters, Brent Mydland and the Grateful Dead are definitely a major part. Ever since he saw Jerry Garcia Band open for Frank Zappa in Chicago in the 80s, he never turned back.
Steve Keim
Bass player, from Charlotte has been playing live throughout the Carolinas for at least 20 years and provides a solid foundation for the rhythm section. He played with Cito in the MoonshineRacers. He loves the Grateful Dead, Santana, Frank Zappa, Jaco Pastorius, and has studied jazz with Charlotte Jazz master, Bill Hannah.
Frank, Gus, and Cesar
Lovingly teased and called the latin mafia, these boys have played with everybody. They add congas, bongos, timbales, shakers, and yes, the cowbell. On the nights they show up latin and reggae sounds prevail and of course, the drum solo.
