There are many different processes that fall under the umbrella of contemporary photography. And that’s exactly what this exhibit, coinciding with the Southeast Society of Photographic Education, focuses on. Those who aren’t photo buffs may get confused beyond this point, but simply put, the artists use alternative processes — gelatin silver photography, digital imaging, and photo sculpture with the “constructed image” — to create the finished works. Translation: Many of the images have been manipulated in one way or another, some through tedious collage-like designs. The idea is, as stated in a press release for the exhibit, “What is not in their images is just as significant as what is.” The photographic artists, ranging from emerging to professional, include Anne Arden McDonald, Carolyn DeMeritt, Dan Estabrook, Aspen Hochhalter, Antonio Martinez, Phil Moody, Jeff Murphy, Linda Foard Roberts, Laurie Schorr, Alice Sebrell, Gayle Stevens and Lorraine Turi.
