Buzz for these soulful, swaggering garage rockers has recently extended beyond the Queen City. Modern Primitives played Brooklyn’s hip haven Mercury Lounge in November, and their gore-spattered video for “Lay with the Dead” — in which the trio gets hacked to pieces by lithesome ladies in bunny masks — was a visual treat last summer. Buzzing guitars, cool drums and front man Travis Phillips’ industrial-strength drawl serve up concise and swinging psych-rock gems.
