Jennifer Mason, co-owner of the event promotion company SOCIALFLOCKERS (along with partner Michael Murphy), says that all she needs for an awesome night on the town is good company and maybe her favorite drink, a strawberry swirl frozen margarita from On The Border. She's worked in marketing and sales for more than 20 years, so it's no surprise that her latest gig SOCIALFLOCKERS is turning out to be a huge success, with more than 2,000 friends on Facebook.
Creative Loafing: What is SOCIALFLOCKERS, and what do you do?
Jennifer Mason: SOCIALFLOCKERS is an event promotion, networking and apparel company. We promote events tailored to adults that enjoy all the nightlife and fun Charlotte has to offer while networking within the group. We also sell "Flocker" apparel such as hats, T-shirts, bikinis, etc. We set up the event with the venue and promote it, not only in person, but also through Facebook, e-mail and text blasts and Twitter.
What made you decide to get into social event networking in the first place?
I love social events. My entire life I have been my friends' "social planner," coming up with new ideas, new places to go and things to do. Even as my short-lived few years as a stay-at-home mom, I was the one to plan neighborhood group events, soccer events for my daughter's team, baby/wedding/bachelorette/birthday parties.
What do you love most about the nightlife scene in Charlotte?
There is always something to do, somewhere to go and an event going on. The only other city I've experienced nightlife in was in Greensboro but that was during college and we only had about three bars we went to.
What kind of work have you done in marketing and advertising?
I worked in property management multi-family industry over 13 years and was in charge of sales and marketing for all the properties I was employed with or managed. I am currently in advertising sales for Primedia with The Charlotte Apartment Guide. I have been with them for almost two years and love it.
