Atlanta’s O’Brother never quite jibed with its brethren in the Favorite Gentlemen community-cum-record label. O’Brother patterns its monolithic missives less after the emotional-but-like-really-loud minor-chord indie-rock of labelmates Manchester Orchestra and more after brainiac post-metal innovators Cave In and Isis. The quintet’s atmospheric textures and emotional heft are considerable, buoying some of the band’s lesser post-grunge tendencies into viscerally engaging listens. (Patrick Wall)
