The San Diego duo of Zach Smith IV and Rob Crow arguably reached their creative peak with the dark brilliance of 2004’s Summer in Abaddon, which they’re performing top-to-bottom on this tour. Great choice, too: the LP’s math-y guitar and bass lines unfurl like intricate equations; keyboards, synths and voices overlap like color threads on a melody loom; loping tempos turn to canters; and narratives cast shadows over the land of endless summers.
