FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
4th Annual Pineville Potato Drop
Pineville, NC – Pineville Neighbors Place in partnership with Society of St. Andrew will host the 4th Annual Pineville Potato Drop, taking place at 10725 Industrial Drive, Pineville on Saturday, October 5, 9am-12noon. Approximately 150-200 volunteers will spend the morning bagging 40,000 pounds of potatoes into 10-pound bags. Thirty local agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens and other community agencies will pick them up for distribution to those who need them.
The Society of St. Andrew is a grassroots, faith-based, hunger relief nonprofit working with all denominations to bridge the hunger gap between 96 billion pounds of food wasted every year in the United States and the nearly 40 million Americans who live in poverty. In 2018, their Potato and Produce Project collected and distributed 6,848,020 pounds of fresh produce.
Pineville Neighbors Place is a nonprofit that was founded 3 years ago to meet the needs of those struggling with poverty and homelessness in the Pineville community. Their main efforts include financial assistance with rent and utilities (in partnership with Crisis Assistance Ministry, Good Friends, Good Fellows and local churches), furniture (in partnership with Beds for Kids) and food (in partnership with Loaves and Fishes and Second Harvest Food Bank). So far in 2019, they have helped 643 people with over $55,000 in financial assistance.
