In his heyday, Public Enemy’s Minister of Information aka Professor Griff (Richard Griffin) was praised for being on the frontlines of a late ‘80s hip-hop revolution, but an anti-semitic statement later and he was ostracized and hated. Oddly enough, it was his words — whether those past controversial ones were taken out of context or not — that would bring him back into the spotlight, where he frequently voices his opinion on hip-hop, black power and other topics. Recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Griff comes to school Charlotte with a lecture and Q&A that covers “the five p’s” — that being, pimps, prostitutes, the pulpit, preachers and the President. He’ll also sign copies of his latest book, A Warrior’s Tapestry. (Anita Overcash)
