Come for the character names, stay for another Rory Sheriff masterpiece. Purlie Victorious follows a traveling preacher of the same name as he returns to his small Georgia town during the Jim Crow era to emancipate the cotton pickers left behind on the oppressive Ol’ Cap’n Cochipee’s plantation. To do so, he’ll need the assistance of Lutiebelle Gussie Mae Jenkins to save the Big Bethel church and take what he and his family are owed.
