Feb. 8: Blue Flowers Launches Inaugural Queen City Cannabis Cup
Ground-breaking event sets out to educate and celebrate Carolinas-based hemp businesses
CHARLOTTE, NC — The 2020 Queen City Cannabis Cup, scheduled for Feb. 8 at Norfolk Hall in the South End, promises to educate, inform and entertain while celebrating hemp businesses and culture in the Carolinas.
The Cannabis Cup will have ticketing at a variety of price levels, starting at $20 for general admission. VIP tickets start at $75 and will include early access and a special VIP Wake + Bake Brunch from Chef Chris Coleman and The Goodyear House. Chef Clark Barlowe of Heirloom will also be hosting an oyster roast at 3PM open to all GA ticket holders, first come first serve. Doors open at Norfolk Hall, 2905 Griffith St., for VIP at 10 a.m., general admission starts at 11 a.m. The event runs until 5 p.m. In addition, VIP ticket holders will get 20 raffle door prize tickets, a swag bag filled with CBD hemp flower and other goodies.

The event, conceptualized by pharmacist Joslyn Brown and her husband Colby, owners of Blue Flowers CBD boutique, is the first of its kind in the Southeast.
“We want to create a day of community and togetherness, where farmers can showcase their hard work and consumers have an opportunity to see how much a powerful plant impacts so many,” says Colby Brown. “This event is all about the farmers and the local businesses that can directly benefit from the continued legalization of hemp in North Carolina.”
Colby and Joslyn opened Blue Flowers in 2019 as a curated boutique destination for vetted, high-quality CBD (Cannabidiol) products, including skincare, health, beauty and pet care, among others. The couple say there is tremendous interest in CBD and associated products, but persistent stigma and lack of widespread knowledge led them to create the Cannabis Cup event.
“Our goal for the event is to be all-inclusive, while supporting local farmers and businesses in Charlotte and across the state,” Colby Brown says. “We aim to be shining examples of how the cannabis hemp industry can enhance the community we live in.”
The event will include hands-on trimming classes, competitions, live music from Josh Daniel, DJ ThatGuySmitty and Aarondynamics and much more. Among the farms and vendors already committed to attending include: Old Globe Cultivation Company, Appalachian Growers, Horton Farms, Windcrest Farms, Good Feeling CBD, Charlotte CBD, Outlaw Hemp Company, Kanna CBD, Akira Botanicals, MyCanna Buddy, Naternal, Farm Life Hemp, Legacy Botanicals, G2 Analytical, Truce Farms, Great River Hemp Co., Green Buffalo Farms, Longleaf Hemp Co., Southern Shepard Farms, Otherside Hemp, Lola's Almost Heaven Farms, Patchwork Urban Farms, Virginia Cultivars and Keep it Hemple amongst others.
The juried CBD hemp competition will be judged by Chef Clark Barlowe and Pharmacist Kavel Bhathela, among others.
Blake Butler, executive director of the NC Industrial Hemp Association will be in attendance, as well as industry leaders Meagan Coneybeer (Ph.D. researcher and part of the Alternative Crops and Organic Research group at NC State), Gary Sikes of Bio Regen Co-Op and Dr. Gerry Farris, among others.
