The Exit Interview

It's a bad day for Professor Dick Fig, a specialist in the works of German playwright Bertolt Brecht. Compounding the indignity of being fired in William Missouri Downs' The Exit Interview, Fig must submit to the indignity of being patronized by a human resources bottom-feeder. It gets worse when a gun-toting maniac besieges the campus, drawing the attention of the profoundly shallow broadcast media. What may prove to be Fig's salvation is the fact that he's in a Brechtian play himself at Actor's Theatre of Charlotte, April 5-27. So we're introduced to Fig's academic vicissitudes — and Downs' dramatic superstructure — by a pair of high-energy cheerleaders, who will likely conspire with the other actors to prevent us from going overboard in suspending disbelief. Chip Decker directs the Charlotte segment of the latest rolling world premiere from the National New Play Network with familiar faces in key roles, including Joe Rux, Lauren Dortch Crozier, and Lee Thomas.
