The Forgotten First: B-1 & the Integration of the Modern Navy
Meet integration pioneer Calvin Morrow, who with his bandmates became the first African Americans to serve in the modern Navy at rank other than messman’s. After breaking the Navy’s color barrier in 1942, they were stationed at Chapel Hill & Pearl Harbor.
Mr. Morrow will talk about his experiences integrating the Navy, and Alex Albright, author of the band’s official history, will present a history of the band in vintage photos, music, & film.
This event is part of B-1’s 76th reunion, Aug. 3 - 5, in Charlotte.
