The greatest to play for Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets have struggled to make an impact in the league since their conception over three decades ago.

Their lack of silverware, however, doesn't mean that they haven't had exceptional players wear the teal blue jersey. The promising team from the late '90s and early 2000s now seems like a distant memory, but at the time, they had some of the most exciting names in the league.

The Hornets are showing no signs of breaking their trophyless drought with their current crop of players amid another disappointing season.

The team currently sits near the bottom of the Eastern Conference and ten places below the Cleveland Cavaliers. Ohioans are clearly favored, with the Cavs currently at +800 to win their conference outright and Bet365 Bonus Code Ohio to help them win even more. Comparatively, the Hornets aren't looking too great with +20000 to make this season's finals.

To remind us of better times, here's a list of the three greatest players to ever play for Charlotte.

Larry Johnson

Born in Texas, Johnson made the move to Charlotte in 1991 and would spend the next five seasons there. Getting into the All-Rookie First Team and then winning Rookie of the Year, the power forwards entrance into the league was explosive.

In 1993, Johnson made the All-Star team, becoming the first Hornet in history to feature in the game. He would subsequently go on to make a second appearance for the All-Stars in 1995.

Johnson's career in Charlotte, however, did not get the fairytale ending, he left for the New York Knicks in 1996 after a falling out with Alonzo Mourning.

He averaged 16.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, making him one of the Hornet's greatest ever.

Kemba Walker

Joining Charlotte in 2011, the New York-born point guard had an extremely impressive eight-year span with the team. During those eight years, he would make the All-Star team on three occasions and finish with the most minutes played in the history of the franchise.

The most three-point field goals, turnovers, and all-time points tally are just a few of Walker's accolades that give him a shining legacy.

Throughout his entire Hornets career, he has amounted to 12,009 points, the only player in the history of the team to exceed 10,000.

Walker left the team as a free agent in 2019 for Boston and then, like the aforementioned Johnson, joined the New York Knicks.

Muggsy Bogues

A legend not just in Charlotte's history but the NBA's, Bogues was an iconic point guard. For almost a decade, between 1989 and 1998, Bogues was the heart of the Charlotte team.

Standing at 5'3", Bogues received global recognition for his level of performance in a game for the giants.

Bogues was by no means an exceptional scorer, and lacking the physical presence to match up against the opposition, he had to rely on other aspects of his game. His speed of foot and mind is how he shone on the basketball court.

After leaving Charlotte, Bogues spent two years at Golden State and then another two at Toronto before finishing his career

The Hornets may have endured a lot of difficulty in recent years, but they can count themselves lucky that they were able to cheer for such amazing talent.
