On its Facebook page, Charlotte trio The Mineral Girls, which releases its Something Forever tape tonight, describes itself as “some sort of post-Internet post-emo lofi indie garbage.” Lo-fi? Sure: Brett Green’s hooky riffs slash through heaps of noisy redline distortion. Emo? OK: The thrusting “Hotel Swimming Pool” recalls Front Bottoms’ hyperactive and hyperliterate post-teen angst. But garbage? Hardly: These are exceptionally winning songs. (Patrick Wall)
