THEATER: Sweeney Todd: The School Edition

Sunday, July 25

How 'bout a shave? Theatre Charlotte's Student Theatre Guild is presenting Sweeney Todd: The School Edition, so here's your chance. Based on Hugh Wheeler's book and Stephen Sondheim's musical, this thriller follows a barbaric barber who returns to 19th century London to exact his revenge on the corrupt judge who framed and exiled him. When Sweeney meets the thrifty pie shop owner, Mrs. Lovett, they create a successful though criminal business, taking the town by storm with Mrs. Lovett's new meat pies. Sweeney Todd is a show that never seems to get old -- maybe that has something to do with the rarity of its genre, or maybe it's the whole musical spectacle. Either way, Sweeney's waiting, and who really wants to keep a homicidal barber waiting? $10-$15. 2:30 p.m. Theatre Charlotte, 501 Queens Road. 704-376-3777.
