Time Sawyer, Virginia Ground
The band’s name is awful, but Charlotte’s Time Sawyer — whose music occupies that sweet spot between folk, alt-country and rock — is worth checking out. Band members Sam Tayloe and Houston Norris (speaking of names, if ever there was a fitting name for a folk-rock band, it would be Houston Norris) keep a rotating stable of talented backing musicians, so you can never be quite sure if you’ll see an acoustic duo, a six-piece or something in between.
