Like many job search websites, Indeed is free to use. There’s also plenty of jobs to choose from— in just about any industry you can think of. There’s everything from entry-level to executive, volunteer positions, internships, part-time, and full-time jobs. You can easily upload your resume to the site, receive new job alerts, read reviews about the company you want to apply to, and compare salaries.

Cons of Using Indeed

Although there are millions of jobs to choose from on Indeed, this can be particularly difficult when you’re looking for a job in a specific industry. For example, if you’re looking for a job in a law office, you may only find job listings for lawyers rather than assistants and other roles in a law firm. FlexJobs is one of the best job search sites for remote jobs. FlexJobs charges you about $15 each month to use the site. You can opt for a three month membership for $30, or a year-long membership for $50. The reason this job search website isn’t free is because the membership fees go towards ensuring that each job listing is legitimate— a problem that you can run into on bigger job search sites. However, the membership is worth the service and benefits that come with it.

Scouted

Scouted is a great job search site for those who have just graduated from college and are looking for entry-level positions. This job search website allows you to upload your resume for easy application, and you can add links to your LinkedIn profile, your website, portfolio, or other links that showcase your skills.

Scouted uses smart software that takes what a user places on their profile and matches it to the company that’s the best fit for them. This “match-making” process is actually one of the best ways to match employees to employers.

While this site matches employees to employers based on talent and potential, some people may be too qualified for certain positions. Keep in mind that this site is best for those who have little to no work experience.

These types of job sites cater to a specific niche, or job industry. This is best for those seeking a specific job title in a broad field, such as a physician looking for a job in pathology.

These sites cater to a specific niche, meaning that job seekers are able to find a job that lines up with their career goals and interests, no matter what level they’re at. Niche job sites can help interns, entry-level workers, and professionals all find a job in the same industry.

Cons of Niche Job Sites

There aren’t that many niche job sites that cater to all industries of work. Sites like Indeed and ZipRecruiter claim to be niche job sites because they offer a variety of jobs within a niche, but they’re still not as targeted and specific as true niche job sites. If you’re lucky enough to find a niche job site that caters to your industry, choose that site over a general job search site.

The best job search website is the one that caters to your needs the best. Fortunately there are sites that cater to those seeking entry-level positions, remote positions, and positions that are most specific to their job industry.
