The N.C. Board of Agriculture is set to consider rules governing euthanasia at the state's animal shelters Wednesday.
The board meets at 10 a.m. in Raleigh at the State Fairgrounds, according to a press release from the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services
The most controversial aspect of the proposed rule change is whether to allow shelters to use gas chambers. Many animal welfare advocates consider the method cruel and inefficient. (Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control doesn't typically use the method, instead opting for lethal injection.)
The board sought public comments until last month. Wednesday's meeting won't include a public hearing.
