Charlotte, NC – Latino voters across the United States are expected to be a key constituency in the upcoming elections. As one of 25 organizations selected by the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) to be part of the Latino Empowerment and Advocacy Project (LEAP) Ya es hora! campaign, the Latin American Coalition continues its nonpartisan voter education and registration drive targeted at the Latino community.

By working with Compare Foods, La Noticia Spanish Newspaper, the Latin American Women Association and BB&T Bank, the Coalition is making information easily accessible to eligible voters. The Latin American Coalition, Charlotte's oldest and largest Hispanic service agency, is actively educating people about the importance of voting, when and where to vote, and how the process works. Through education, voter registration will increase, thereby strengthening the importance of the Latino electorate.

Over nine million Latinos voted in 2004, and up to ten million are expected this year. With education and healthcare as two of the population’s most pressing concerns, there is not doubt that the Latino vote will impact the election results in November. By launching the voter education campaign, the Latin American Coalition has the opportunity to make an even greater impact in the community.
