More music in summer for the Q.C.

We're not complaining. The Uptown Amphitheater is in our backyard. See you there.

This summer should be music to the ears of area concert lovers. The question is whether the box office can also hit the high notes.

The addition of a 2,000-seat indoor music hall and 5,000-seat amphitheater will usher in more concerts, a wider variety of acts — and fierce competition for entertainment dollars during a time of spiraling unemployment. It also marks a stress test of sorts for live music in Charlotte, a city with a notoriously fickle reputation within the concert industry.

Live Nation, the largest concert producer in the country, will operate and book both the new venues, located uptown in Fourth Ward’s N.C. Music Factory. The venues, known as the Fillmore and the Uptown Amphitheater at the Music Factory, are expected to host 105 concerts each year, with the Fillmore accounting for 80 of those.
