It's not that we aren't taking the Swine Flu "public health emergency" seriously, we are. If you feel sick, stay home and keep your cooties to yourself. Please!
But, really: Let's run the numbers before we completely lose our collective minds.
There are 40 reported cases of swine flu in the United States, most listed as "mild." There are more than 300 million people in living in the States. That means, approximately 0.00001333 percent of the U.S. population currently has the disease. The media is right this is horrifying and demands around the clock breaking news coverage.
While only an entertainer, like Rush Limbaugh, Jon Stewart helps to put the pandemic in perspective:

U.S. officials advised Americans against most travel to Mexico on Monday as a swine flu virus that began there spread to the United States and beyond.With 40 U.S. cases now reported, President Obama urged calm, saying there was reason for concern but not yet a cause for alarm.
So far, the disease here seems less severe than in Mexico, where more than 1,600 cases have been reported and where the suspected death toll has climbed to 149. No U.S. deaths and only one hospitalization have been reported.
