From my school to your school: Dr. Dorothy Cowser Yancy made a name for herself in Charlotte, serving as the president of Johnson C. Smith University for more than a decade. Now, after seeing it rise to become one of the top HBCUs in the nation, shes said "peace out" to the Golden Bulls and the Q.C. as she makes her way down to Raleigh. Yancy will begin her position as the interim president of Shaw University, replacing Clarence Newsome.
While at the Charlotte school, she ran two capital campaigns, raising $145 million. She also expanded the universitys endowment to $53 million from $14 million. Under her leadership, the school became the first historically black university in the nation to issue laptop computers to all its students.
