South Carolina Mark Sanford spoke to the press today, after returning from Argentina by way of Atlanta -- which is, in case you're wondering, not close to the Appalachian Trail Head.
During his presser, where the governor repeatedly invoked religion and apologized to family, he admitted that he met a woman in Washington eight years ago who was in the midst of breaking up with her husband. After a heart-to-heart about her want to reconcile with her family, the two exchanged e-mail addresses.
The relationship, according to Sanford, sparked and became more serious over the last year. He also said his wife has known about the affair for the last five months and admitted he spent the last few days "crying in Argentina" and trying to "get his heart right."
He also resigned from his post as the chair of the Republican Governors Association but he did not resign as governor.
While it is sad that the governor is having a rough go of things in his love life, it's downright appalling that he thinks it's OK to abandon his state and her citizens with no explanation.
