No sense trying to talk sense to a RWNJ

Posted By on Thu, Aug 19, 2010 at 11:52 AM

Lawd, have you noticed that right-wing nut jobs (RWNJs) ramble and ramble and ramble sometimes, picking up little bits of conservative talking points from here and there and everywhere, tying them together with little more than spit and ego? I have.

I think we're all clear on the reality that a lot of them aren't as interested in facts as much as they're interested in trying to one-up whomever they're talking to about anything remotely political.

Big business interests that actually screw their own interests? No matter, they're all for the myth we call the "free market economy." Pretending to support the Constitution while, out of the other side of their mouth, working diligently to deny someone else their Constitutional rights? That's as commonplace as breathing. Swearing they're not bigots while insisting our president isn't a U.S. citizen and that he's Muslim? For the zillionth time — he's a citizen. Also, in our country we have a little something known as First Amendment rights -- you may have heard of them.

In case you haven't actually read the First Amendment, here it is:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

As you can see, it's pretty damn clear: We're free to worship however we choose. Never mind that Obama's a Bible-carrying Christian; that's not even the point. If he worshiped space aliens it shouldn't matter because, in America, we're free to believe any damn thing we want, even if it doesn't make sense — right RWNJs?

Point is, arguing with a RWNJ is a fruitless exercise. All they'll do is dodge logic and cobble together another incoherent string of conservative talking points likely lifted from FauxNews or that goober Rush "I love me some oxycodone" Limbaugh.

Listen, if RWNJs want to make fools of themselves and show off their ignorance like a peacock shows of their feathers, by all means let them. Anyone with half a brain will realize they're full of shit. So, walk away and don't pay their latest string of bologna any mind.

Speaking of which, I was stopped last night outside of a bar in NoDa by some guy who apparently reads my articles. Creepy? Yes. But, you know, there are a lot of freaks in this world (and I like a lot of them). Anyway, he tried to talk to me about coal then drifted off into food stamps, then made a wide swing into junk food (? Yeah, I don't know.) and then started blathering about how his girlfriend is from West Virginia. I tried to follow his logic for a little while and then turned that same logic back on him to prove my own point. But he didn't seem to follow his own logic ... so, there's that.

After about 10 minutes, and I should note I was standing in the rain while this gentleman sat beneath cover, I said, "Dude, you're way off topic." And, he was. At that point he was yammering about ... well, geeze, I'm not really sure. His talking points were so snarled together, it was difficult to tell what the hell he actually meant to say. I suspect his main point was, "I hate everything and everyone who's not like me."

I eventually walked away. I think I'll be doing more of that in the future, which is what I should have done in the first place. You see, it's not my job to educate those who resist knowledge and think facts are equal to opinions — or, worse, can't tell the difference between the two. So, in the future, I'm not going to waste my time trying to save them from themselves anymore. I prefer to surround myself with smart folks who exercise their critical thinking skills as a matter of habit, anyway.

The guy in this video reminds me a lot of the fool I ran into last night, only the guy who ambushed me was younger. And I quote, "Not only is Obama trying to do socialism ..." Bahaha ... WTF, over?
