Design a Democratic National Convention poster for the people

The iconic power fist is attributed to the Assyrian goddess Ishtar; it was used as the logo for the Industrial Workers of the World in 1917 and was popularized in 1948 by a revolutionary print shop in Mexico.

The Democratic National Convention probably won't be using the iconic power fist on its posters for the event in Charlotte next year, but the planners shouldn't flat-out reject such an image. After all, they've consistently touted the event as "the people's convention." Let's hold them to it.

You can help do that by designing a DNC poster. The convention's Executive Director Dan Murrey announced today that he's looking for a few good creative types to come up with something that represents "the people." Get your creative juices flowing: the deadline for the project is midnight on Dec. 31, 2011.

From Murrey:

Calling all artists, designers, and other creatives! We want YOU to be the designer behind one of the 2012 Democratic National Convention's Official posters.
Here's what you have to do — create an original 18 x 24" poster using the 2012 Democratic National Convention official logo and incorporating and interpreting one (or more) of the following themes:

1). Americans coming together
2). Building a better future
3). Opportunity and Empowerment

To register, download the logo, get more details, and to read the official rules, check out our website at www.charlottein2012.com/postercontest

Deadline for submissions is December 31st, 2011, at 11:59 p.m. (EST). The winning poster will be sold in our online store and the winner will receive a framed print of their poster and $1 of each poster sold.

I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Sincerely,

Dr. Dan Murrey
Executive Director
