Cabarrus County is not the place to drink and drive. After news broke that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer Beatrice Lynn Andres was arrested on Saturday and charged with DWI, now former state representative Nick Mackey is facing the same charge. In the same county, according to WSOC-TV.
Here's what the TV station is reporting:
Concord police said they pulled Mackey over early Sunday.Police said he was unsteady on his feet, was rambling and smelled like alcohol.
Mackey was arrested after refusing a Breathalyzer test, police said.
Mackey is most known for his controversial run for Mecklenburg County sheriff in 2007. After winning the election, he was eventually blocked by county commissioners from taking the seat and Chipp Bailey was ultimately named sheriff.
Mackey's election forced changes in the local Democratic Party, then chairman David Erdman resigned.
The state party overturned the election and current Mecklenburg County Sheriff Chipp Bailey was given the position.
Then, in 2008, Mackey seemed to be on a political comeback when he was elected to the General Assembly, representing District 99. He was voted out after serving one term.
