News UNC to vote on yet another tuition rate hike in February

The Observer is reporting that the University of North Carolina president, Tom Ross, is recommending a "fee hike of less than 10 percent" ... that's how the headline reads. Reading past the headline, one realizes that's on top of a nearly — aren't semantics fun?! — 10 percent tuition increase from last year:
Ross will offer the UNC Board of Governors specific recommendations in the next few weeks. But he said he hoped his plan would represent an average systemwide increase below the 9.3 percent hike enacted last year....
UNC campuses have proposed undergraduate tuition and fee increases ranging from 4.3 percent at UNC-Pembroke to 13.5 percent at UNC-Asheville. The proposed undergraduate tuition and fee increases are 11.4 percent at UNC-Chapel Hill, 10.4 percent at N.C. State University and 8.5 percent at N.C. Central University.

Add in school loan interest rates and "barely less than" just comes across as ridiculous, especially given the economy and it's friend the shittastic job market.
To all of this I say, it's no wonder people are running around in the streets bitching about their school loans. Or, as Rush Limbaugh might say, bend over and grab your ankles, students, because you're about to get fucked.
