Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds

Lead crooner and principal songwriter Arleigh Kincheloe (aka Sister Sparrow) is backed by a crack crew of musicians, eight of them, making SSDB a rollicking, expansive ensemble. The horns-fueled blend of classic soul and blues-rock sounds a bit scattered at times, and it takes awhile to get into their groove, but then the band converges musically with Sparrow's soaring vocals and the boot-shuffling kicks in. It's a big crew, but they work together seamlessly, sounding warmer and more intimate as their shows unfold. The musical camaraderie on stage should be in full bloom as they're on the road supporting the new recording, Pound of Dirt. With the Wheeler Brothers. $10-$12. Feb. 12, 8:30 p.m. Visulite Theatre, 1615 Elizabeth Ave. 704-358-9200.
