Wayne Hancock playing Double Door Inn tonight (2/27/13)

Wayne Hancock

Wayne Hancock writes and plays vintage American music that'll have you wondering if you're in the right decade. His voice is about as old-school as it gets, and, backed by a basic country band including slide guitar, Hancock plows through swing, roadhouse blues, rockabilly, classic country and country blues with ease and authenticity. But he's not just aping his heroes, which include Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams Sr.; Hancock lives the road-bound life he sings about and keeps the spirit of American music alive. His new album, Ride, comes out this week. As he howls in one of his old songs, "Juke Joint Jumpin'" the joint should be jumping. Now, if he could only perform in black and white. $15. Feb. 27, 9 p.m. Double Door Inn, 1218 Charlottetowne Road. 704-376-1446.
