The Whiskey Gentry playing Evening Muse tonight (4/18/13)

The Whiskey Gentry

This gentry looks more like your next-door neighbors - flannel, cheap beer, working class, blue-collar. The Whiskey Gentry write and play old-time country music while strolling into bluegrass and Appalachian lore as the fiddle, banjo or mandolin dances with the acoustic and electric guitars and the scrap rhythm section props up the foundation. It's got a nice punch to it and the band knows its way around a song with a twang-inflected female singer accenting the lyrics. Formed in 2009 by husband and wife duo Lauren Staley and Jason Morrow, the band plows the fields of rural country with the exuberance of forward-gazing musicians. Also on the bill: The Brother Comatose. $8-$10. April 18, 8 p.m. The Evening Muse, 3227 N. Davidson St. 704-376-3737.
