Luke Bryan at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre tonight (7/12/2013)

LUKE BRYAN
It only took the boys about a decade and a half to catch up to Shania. While women spent the '90s demonstrating the light, playful side of country, most male contributions to the genre stayed mired in the morose - think "Don't Take the Girl," and that song had a happy ending by the standards of the day. Enter Luke Bryan, who, along with other singers of his ilk, has spent the last six years showing that sometimes boys just wanna have fun, too. Some of his lyrics - "Rain makes corn/Corn makes whiskey/Whiskey makes my baby/Feel a little frisky" - are laugh-out-loud ridiculous, but the man seems to be having so much fun, it's hard to dislike him. With song titles like "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)" and just a staggering amount of tracks about boozin', honky tonkin' and getting rowdy with his boys, you know exactly what to expect from his shows. But be careful - you might find you like it in spite of yourself. With Thompson Square and Florida Georgia Line. $40-$67.25. July 12, 7 p.m. Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, 707 Pavilion Blvd. 704-549-1292.
