Obamamania

Posted By on Fri, Dec 26, 2008 at 8:13 AM

If I get one more phone call from someone asking about what "we" are doing for Barack Obama's inauguration, I'll scream. "We" are not doing anything and no you cannot stay with me or my family during the inauguration. Why? Because we're all getting the hell out of dodge. Why? D.C. could barely handle All-Star weekend which only had 1/2 million people in attendance, so how in the world do they expect to manage an anticipated 6 million? Businesses including bars and restaurants will be open until 5 a.m. Traffic is already beastly; you have to buy metrocards in advance for the week of the inauguration; D.C. is already off the hook -- still. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me, which is why I will be watching this historic moment from my living room in North Carolina.

Obama's Cabinet

Posted By on Wed, Dec 24, 2008 at 11:17 AM

Well, well, well. The demigod commonly referred to as President-elect Obama has come under fire for a variety of oversights in his Cabinet selection. Not enough women — five is just not enough. Not enough Latinos. No gays — that we know of. I guess Barney Frank for Secretary of the Treasury would have been too much to hope for. This on the heels of getting blasted by the gay community for choosing Rick Warren to help provide the religious part of the inauguration. Mr. "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff," is against gay marriage. Thus, the truth is coming to light — Obama is a politician. He cannot please everyone and he will not always make the right decision. Because he is a politician, he will do what's best for him, ultimately.

Who knew?

Posted By on Sat, Dec 20, 2008 at 10:59 AM

Janet Jackson is having a baby with Jermaine Dupri, allegedly. Jennifer Lopez had babies with Marc Anthony who is now cheating, allegedly. Britney Spears had babies with K-Fed. I'd like to personally apologize to all of the men out there that thought they did not stand a chance with three of the most successful and beautiful women in entertainment. Their taste in men does not reflect their professional success. Either all of these women gave up or the adage that beautiful women are crazy is true. I'm calling up Idris Elba, Jason Lewis and Paul Hunter right now. Wish me luck.

Affirmative action

Posted By on Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 6:59 PM

Caroline Kennedy is chasing down Hillary Rodham Clinton's Senate seat. Camelot has finally come home and decided to stake her claim in politics. Isn't it just like a Kennedy to aim for the most high-profile Senate seat, aside from the President-elect's seat that has dibs on it? It will be interesting to see how this plays out since she has not been involved in politics and reportedly hasn't voted in a bunch of elections either. Oh, to be a white woman named Kennedy in America.

Is logic foreign to the CMS board?

Posted By on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 3:36 PM

Last week, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools voted to reduce the number of credits that students will be required to meet in order to graduate. In addition, foreign language is no longer a requirement. Can we lower our standards any more? I mean, really. Students need a foreign language in order to go to college and it is optional? Kudos to CMS for setting our kids to fail, at worst, and making it harder for them to compete in the workplace, at best. A great damn job!

Blagojevich's bad obsession

Posted By on Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 12:11 PM

Well, well, well. A fourth Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich, has been tagged for corruption. Old habits die hard and it seems as if this is a requirement for this gig. He absolutely thought that he would get away with selling the seat of the most famous U.S. senator in recent history? Wow. A prime example of being obsessed with power — I mean way obsessed. I guess the glee is officially gone and the politically corrupt Chicago that we all know and love has resurfaced.

Black-on-black crime

Posted By on Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 3:14 PM

Alan Keyes and Clarence Thomas have spearheaded the effort to have President-Elect Obama disqualified because he is not a "natural born citizen." Funny, none of the founding fathers were either. I suspect if Sen. John McCain was born in Panama and he is considered "natural born," then someone born in Hawaii to a mother from Kansas is probably a citizen. For two black men, who are clearly the descendants of slaves based on their insistence on maintaining the master's house at their expense, this is deplorable. To continue to be agents of the state and undermine President-elect Obama even at the 11th hour is tragic. Funny, Alan Keyes didn't raise this issue when he got crushed by Obama in the 2004 Senate race. This is quite possibly the most extreme case of black-on-black crime that I have ever seen. This is truly a sad day.

Murphy's Law

Posted By on Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 12:28 PM

The "Juice" has finally gotten squeezed. O.J. Simpson will spend 9 years in prison for stealing his own stuff. At least he finally admitted the obvious. He is "stupid." Any man that gets away with murder, allegedly, and cannot manage to stay out of trouble, is truly a moron. What is also moronic? Going to prison for stealing your belongings. I know it was the gun and kidnapping. Maybe now the 61-year-old Simpson will finally learn that you don't have to be a thug or use violence to solve problems.

Fantasy and reality

Posted By on Wed, Nov 26, 2008 at 3:23 PM

Last week, as many as 1,500 people watched a 19-year-old man commit suicide via Web cam. What's more horrifying than that? The number of people who have since watched the video. What's really going on in our society when we are actually watching people die? For 10 hours no one called or did anything while this young man lay there and died. I think everyone who viewed it should be charged. That may seem extreme but perhaps others will think again before idly standing by and watching someone take a last breath.

She sent him flying

Posted By on Wed, Nov 26, 2008 at 11:44 AM

Finally Amy Winehouse has done something right — she has dumped her husband. Yes, his hind parts are to the curb. Why? She caught him with a model chick. I would have thought it would be other things like constant incarceration and shady dealings. I guess she finally tired of asking, "What kind of F$^&%^y is this?" Kudos to Amy. Now if she could just kick her drug habit, we'd really be back to black!
