Sex in a box

Interested in trying out some new bedroom accoutrements but too busy or embarrassed to make it to the local sex toy shop? Several companies offer subscriptions-based delivery services that send you a box of new toys every month. I tried out three options in varying price points.

SecretSexBox ($19.95)
This is a good option for those on a budget or those who don't need fancy packaging. The items arrived in a plain brown box, wrapped in brown tissue paper. The theme was "For Her Pleasure" and inside was a toy called the Clitoriffic and samples of Uberlube and Orgasmix clitoral stimulating gel. Because the same company also runs RomanticGifts.com and Vibrators.com, it has big buying power and access to a large array of items. Not sure if you can commit? It offers a $5 box (including shipping) to try out its service.

Tuck-Ins Monthly ($29.99)
The company name came from a joke between the founders when they were dating, in which he would ask her to come over and "tuck him in" for the night. This is a great option for a woman who would enjoy receiving something pretty and female-focused, as every box includes something sexy to wear, an inspirational/motivational card, and assorted little goodies. It all comes packaged in a cute box with a sexy logo and shiny pink ribbon. Mine included glittery lip polish, arousal creme, cotton-candy-flavored oral sex gel, orgasm gel and shave creme with "sex attractant." The lingerie was rather complicated to climb into, but a helpful note advised me to check the company's Facebook page to view a model so I could get an idea of how the thing was supposed to look. I say "thing" because it wasn't quite lingerie - more like tiny bungee cords held together with grommets. Confusion aside the box was well worth the $30.

The Fantasy Box ($59, also available in $34 or $159 versions)
This is a fantastic service for couples! Co-founders Mariah and Chris launched this service to support relationships based on their belief that "the best sex was fun, adventurous, varied and based on a foundation of communication and trust. It was anticipated and prioritized, even when life got in the way." In contrast to other services that send every subscriber the same box at the same time, with TFB each couple starts with the same box, no matter when they sign up, and future boxes and "fantasies" will build on each other. The first box is themed around communication and anticipation, and it includes "sensual surveys" for both parties to take, as well as instructions for "the Leader" and "the Follower" (hint: you can always switch roles later!).

Everything comes in a nice red and black box, and the products are tastefully packaged and they coordinate well. I am hesitant to reveal what's in the box, but it does include lingerie, a toy, lube, and a few other surprises. When I commented on how lovely the products were, Mariah said that they often re-package their products for eye appeal. (We agreed that dated and tacky packaging can quickly kill a mood.) At this time there are 12 themes, including products that "range from the romantic and playful, to costumes and role playing, through more advanced elements of bondage."

I could definitely suggest this to couples who want a fun monthly date night. Not only is it exciting to open a box and discover your theme for the night, but this product can help couples communicate about sex, explore fantasies, and increase their intimacy.
